>Mn naturalist conference

November 9, 2018 @ 8:00 am - November 11, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

Naturalists face many challenges. The ‘big picture’ challenges naturalists to stay relevant and inclusive, and smaller day-to-day problems can feel just as large when you add them all up.

This year, we are going back to basics, stepping back to focus on the everyday tasks we do: What can we do to improve our processes? Are there new tricks we can employ to make us more effective? Ways to organize curriculum more effectively? Valuable nuggets of information that will help us? Because sometimes even the smallest changes can make a world of difference!

Administration: Grant Writing, managing and mentoring interns, naturalist evaluations, diversity in the workplace, facilitating conversations, etc.

Pedagogy in Practice: Group Management, trail techniques, risk management, curriculum writing, big body play, structuring of programs, etc.

Natural History: Birds, astronomy, parasites, fish, macro-invertebrates, invasive species, fungi, slime molds, migration, geology, vascular plants, evolution, mammalogy, etc.

Miscellaneous: History, citizen science projects, outdoor recreation, cultural sensitivity, reaching diverse audiences, climate change, taxidermy, etc.

Other Duties as Assigned: Developing relationships with schools, exhibits on a budget, creating and maintaining community gardens, animals care, social media, etc.
